As Mark Silberman officially ends his term as board chair of Federation today, we asked several community and Federation leaders who have worked closely with him to say some words of thanks:
Eric Robbins: The Atlanta Jewish community has a long roster of leaders who have elevated this community and made a lasting impact. Now the name Mark Silberman will be etched on that list. It’s not just over the last two years of his Federation board chairmanship that Mark has poured his soul into this community. Mark has been doing it for over a decade — the last two years leading our board have simply been a capstone! Mark has strengthened this community and the programs that will make a lasting difference in building Jewish identity and a strong and vibrant Jewish community. Jewish Atlanta will forever be impacted by the leadership of Mark Silberman.
Joel Marks: The first word that comes to mind about Mark Silberman is “infectious” – in a great way, not in a COVID way! Mark is like an energizer bunny on steroids who infuses enthusiasm and passion into all things Jewish. He is an amazing ambassador for Federation and has a unique capability to “coach up” everyone who comes into his sphere of influence. He has a larger than life persona and is one of the most selfless leaders I have ever had the privilege of working with. We are a better Federation, and a better community because of Mark’s dedication and determination during his tenure as board chair.
Bobby Harris: In 2006 I asked Mark Silberman to join our Camp Committee — what a great move that turned out to be! Mark’s capacious drive, insight, generosity, and warmth soon led to his becoming Camp Chair and leading Coleman to major transformations and successes. What I appreciate most about Mark is the deep respect that he shows toward people regardless of their status, as well as his candor. Those who work with Mark feel trust because he tells you exactly what he thinks and makes it comfortable for others to be “real” with him. I can confidently speak for each of the five Atlanta Jewish residential camps when I say that Federation has been a more outstanding camp supporter than we could ever imagined — probably the best in North America. We all know that, without Mark Silberman’s involvement, we would not be able to say that.
Helen & David Zalik: Dear Mark, your impact on our community has been immeasurable. Thank you for your endless passion, perseverance, humility and kindness. You are our philanthropic champion, visionary and friend. Wishing you more strength for all the future opportunities to come.
