Just as in the game “Telephone,” misinformation has a way of snowballing when well-meaning people who don’t know all the facts spread the things they hear. Now Federation has a system in place that directs information to precisely the right people in any kind of emergency. Together with the Secure Community Network (SCN) and Jewish Federation of North America (JFNA), we’ve made an investment in OnSolve (formerly called MIR3), SCN’s Alert System, which sends important messages simultaneously to any number of people, and allows for immediate, coordinated response. A downloadable mobile app for identified Federation subscribers will allow users to send, receive and respond on their smart phone.
For example, when a recent wave of bomb threats occurred across the U.S., the system alerted key decision-makers here at Federation who were empowered to launch the correct security response. OnSolve kept the right people in the information loop so that rumors weren’t spread, outsiders were not alarmed, and false conclusions weren’t reached. It allowed security personnel to launch mass notifications via desktop alerts, mobile phone, SMS, email, TTY, and more. As early adopters of OnSolve, Atlanta is leading the way for other federations who look to us for best practices.
