Harry Maziar: Federation’s Lifetime of Achievement Award Winner
Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta is truly delighted to announce that Harry Maziar will be presented with the Lifetime of Achievement award on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the Marcus Jewish Community Center. Harry’s remarkable commitment to our community will be celebrated at Federation’s 113th Annual Meeting, beginning at 7:00 pm and followed by a dessert reception. Five additional awards will be presented to outstanding local Jewish community leaders. The event is free of charge and you are encouraged to RSVP here.
Harry Maziar is a native son of Atlanta, raised in a home where it was a Talmudic obligation to help others. As he has said, “the blue box in our house wasn’t Tiffany, it was the JNF pushke.” From this foundation he went on to forge a legendary career in business and become one of Atlanta’s most remarkable philanthropic leaders.
For decades, as President of Atlanta-based Zep Manufacturing Co., and Chairman of National Service Industries’ Chemical Division, Harry has been known as the consummate salesman. He has written numerous articles and a book, Story Selling, on honorable and effective salesmanship. He continues to serve as the first Executive in Residence at Kennesaw State’s Coles College of Business and was recently inducted into their Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the GA State University Risk Management Hall of Fame. Harry has impacted future generations by serving on the board and sharing his business knowledge with Junior Achievement of Atlanta.
But it is Harry Maziar’s towering role as top “salesman” for our Jewish community and other worthy philanthropies, that merit this award. In the Jewish community he has been president, chaired or provided leadership at Federation, Birthright Israel, Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA), Jewish Family & Career Services (JF&CS), William Breman Jewish Home and the Ahavath Achim Synagogue. He also served on the boards of United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta and the Atlanta Humane Society.
Harry reserves special affection for the MJCCA, and the Zaban Park complex that pulses with activity and serves as a crossroads for our sprawling Jewish community. He is especially proud of the eponymous Harry Maziar Classic Golf Tournament that supports the MJCCA and honors community leaders.
Harry and his wife Sherry have been married for 64 years and are the proud parents of three children and their spouses — Todd & Susan Maziar, Lisa & Hal Philipson, Neal & Amy Sue Maziar — along with nine grandchildren, who bring them unparalleled blessings and joy. Please save the date and join us as we honor Harry Maziar with this richly deserved award.
