Jacobson Leadership Institute

The Jacobson Leadership Institute (JLI) has been a think tank and training ground for adaptive leadership and good governance within Atlanta’s synagogues, Jewish day schools, and Jewish agencies. In 2023, JLI will again engage experts to help facilitate discussions and training about Jewish community leadership.

JLI, named in honor of Betty Ann Jacobson, a former Federation president and true Jewish leader in our community, provides educational opportunities for lay leadership of synagogues, day schools, agencies, and organizations. The goal of the program is to build a coalition of informed and educated community leaders to help strengthen their own organizations and the Atlanta Jewish community at large.

This Institute will focus on lay leadership basics and therefore the ideal candidate will be relatively new to board or committee service. We encourage local Jewish nonprofits to nominate anyone new to your board or someone you would like to see grow into a board position. Please note this is not specifically for young leaders but rather newer leaders.

We request that you confer with those in your organization, select one candidate to represent your institution and confirm with the nominee prior to submission.

Session dates and topics:

  • Opening Retreat, Sunday February 5
  • Wednesday, February 22 – Meeting facilitation and consensus building
  • Wednesday, March 8 – Governance and Finance
  • Wednesday, March 22 – Fundraising
  • Tuesday, May 2 – Organization specific conversations
  • Tuesday, May 16 – Closing Dinner

To defray the cost of meals provided, there is a requested $118 fee from the institution (invoices will be sent before program launch). The opening retreat is a full day program on Sunday, February 5th from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm at the Selig Center. All other sessions will be in the evening for 3 hours and will include dinner (dietary laws are observed), materials, and facilitator fees. Programs begin at 6pm and end no later than 9pm. Locations to be announced.

Please submit your nomination no later than Friday, January 27, 2023, by visiting https://bit.ly/3NeZBqG. As this program is open to all Atlanta Jewish organizations, only one person per institution will be accepted.
