Because of You, Israelis Are Finding Healing Through Art

Group of Israeli children do art

Written by Yael, Victim of October 7 & Recipient of Mental Health Support in Israel

Mentally, at first, it was hard [post-October 7]. I wasn’t sure what to expect from art therapy—but it turned out to be one of the most amazing things that’s ever happened to me.

In Hebrew, we call it the “safe zone.” But for me, it became something even deeper—a “runaway zone,” a place where I could escape, breathe, and be myself. I was always greeted with a smile. Sometimes a hug. Always someone asking, “Do you want help?”

It’s not always easy to talk about what I’ve been through. But with art, I can express things I don’t have words for. I’ve been able to take everything I’m feeling and pour it out—onto the page, into the colors, through the shapes. That kind of release is healing.

I’m so grateful. Because of you—your generosity, your belief in this work—I’ve found a place that holds me through the hard moments and helps me rediscover hope.

Thank you for making this possible.
