Power in Unity: Lion of Judah & Pomegranate Women Gather in Strength

Tuesday, September 16 marked a milestone for Jewish Atlanta as more than 300 women gathered for the annual Lion of Judah & Pomegranate Fall Luncheon. These two giving societies, cornerstones of Women’s Philanthropy, once again demonstrated the profound impact of uniting philanthropic Jewish women around shared purpose, vision, and action.

The luncheon radiated with energy, love, and determination—an atmosphere that reflected the true power of women leading change. Each table became a space of connection, where individual commitments joined together in collective strength. As was beautifully echoed throughout the program, one voice may be soft, but together these women’s voices rise to create extraordinary impact.

This year’s program carried deep resonance. Guests were especially moved by hearing from the Forum for Reservists’ Wives, a group of Israeli women whose resilience embodies courage and perseverance. Their presence on stage was made possible through the vision of Tal Baum, restaurateur, philanthropist, sponsor of the luncheon, and its moderator. It was her idea to bring these remarkable women to Atlanta, ensuring their stories of strength and sacrifice could inspire the community firsthand. Their message reminded attendees that Federation’s support for Israel is personal and immediate, sustaining families in moments of unimaginable challenge. Dollars raised through the Israel Emergency Campaign have gone directly to fund this vital program, along with many others transforming lives daily.

Closer to home, the afternoon spotlighted a historic moment for Atlanta. The Zaban Paradies Center, which provides housing and support for couples experiencing homelessness, saw such overwhelming generosity from attendees that it concluded its drive earlier than ever before—an unprecedented testament to the heart and soul of this community.

The Lion of Judah and Pomegranate societies represent more than just giving circles. They are communities of leaders who use their philanthropy to strengthen Jewish life, respond to urgent needs, and build a more compassionate world. Yesterday’s gathering was a vibrant reminder that when women unite, they amplify one another’s voices and their ability to effect change.

Reflecting on the afternoon, Hagit Avital-Tsfany, Senior Donor Officer of Women’s Philanthropy, shared: “What we witnessed yesterday was the incredible strength that emerges when Jewish women come together—not only to give, but to lead. Lion of Judah and Pomegranate women are setting the example for the next generation: that philanthropy is not just about dollars raised, it is about building a community rooted in compassion, resilience, and vision.”

She added, “I am so deeply proud of this community of women. Their generosity is powerful, but even more powerful is the way they show up for one another, for Atlanta, and for Israel. Yesterday reminded us that our voices, united, can carry across continents and touch lives in ways we may never fully know.”

The luncheon was not just an event; it was a demonstration of solidarity, generosity, and leadership. Together, the women of Lion of Judah and Pomegranate are writing the next chapter of Jewish Atlanta—one filled with hope, resilience, and unwavering commitment to community.
