Building the Teachers You Need With What You Already Have: An Asset-Based Approach to Strengthening the Teacher Pipeline

Part 1 – February 11, 2026 (9:30 – 11:00 am) on Zoom

Part 2 – March 25, 2026 (10:00 am – 2:00 pm) at The Dupree

About This Program

Finding great teachers for part-time Jewish education is a real challenge — but your community already has more assets than you think. In this two-part, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn a simple, creative process for uncovering those assets and putting them to work.

Part One (Online): We’ll begin with an introduction to photovoice, a community-based participatory action research method that uses photography to spark insight, conversation, and problem solving. You’ll get a feel for how the process works, see examples, and leave with a playful “photo scavenger hunt” to guide your exploration.

Between Sessions: You’ll head out into your community — your school, your synagogue, your neighborhood — to capture images of the tangible and intangible strengths that already exist around you. People, spaces, routines, relationships, stories, moments of joy, unexpected resources… anything that feels like an asset.

Part Two (In Person): We’ll come back together to share, sort, and make meaning from the photographs. Through collaborative protocols, we’ll surface patterns, name local strengths, and translate what we discover into concrete recruitment and hiring action steps. You’ll walk away with:

• A curated collection of community assets you can use right away

• A repeatable practice you can bring back to your school or team

• Fresh ideas for strengthening your teacher pipeline

• A long-term, asset-based lens you can apply to all kinds of organizational challenges

This workshop is hands-on, creative, and grounded in real-world application. No photography skills required — just curiosity, a willingness to look closely, and a phone camera.
