Grand Stories, Little Listeners: A Chanukah Adventure

Join us for a joyful intergenerational Chanukah experience designed especially for grandparents, grandfriends, and children ages 0-5! Enjoy a playful, interactive story time with award-winning children’s book author Barbara Kimmel (Hanukkah Hippity-Hop) and storyteller Audrey Galex, Program Director of the Atlanta Jewish Storytelling Festival. Together we’ll explore the magic of storytelling through movement, imagination, and laughter.

After the story, families will have the chance to share favorite Chanukah memories, traditions, and Jewish values across generations. We’ll provide fun props to spark conversation, plus crafts for children and light refreshments for all. Come make memories, share stories, and celebrate the light of Chanukah, l’dor v’dor (from generation to generation).”

This is a first in a series of storytelling events designed for grandparents and grandfriends with children 0-5. Future programs and dates to be announced soon!

Featured Speakers
Audrey Galex
Audrey Galex, Program Director of the Atlanta Jewish Storytelling Festival

Audrey Galex is a dynamic storyteller, journalist, instructor, author, and community advocate who believes stories have the power to bridge generations, foster connection, and inspire change. Her debut children’s book, Turtle Rocks, celebrates resilience, teamwork, and the magic of believing in oneself. Along with The Breman, Audrey co-founded the Atlanta Jewish Storytelling Festival and was part of the team that launched the national “We Are Your Neighbors” community storytelling initiative.

Now a grandmother, as well as the mother of three adult children, Audrey is passionate about the stories that live in families—the memories we inherit, the tales we pass down, and the everyday moments that become family lore. She loves helping people of all ages discover that their own stories are worth telling, sharing, and remembering.

Both books were selected for the Association of Jewish Libraries’ Holiday Highlights, which recognizes outstanding Jewish holiday books for children. Barbara and her husband, playwright Hank Kimmel (known as “Hanukkah Hank” when they perform together), bring Chanukah joy to families through interactive programs at bookstores, museums, synagogues, libraries, and other community venues.
