Meet the Interfaith Connector, Doug Konkel
Doug joined Federation as Director of Interfaith Engagement in November of 2023 after a 17-year run as executive director of Congregation Gesher L’Torah, a Conservative synagogue in Alpharetta, GA. The non-Jewish portion of an interfaith family, Doug and his wife Laura Zucker, a physician with North Fulton Pediatrics, raised their sons, Ben and Sam, in Alpharetta before sending them off to college at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Chicago, respectively.
In his years at Gesher L’Torah, Doug had the opportunity to both learn from and advise other interfaith couples as they negotiated their own particular family journeys. The opportunity to help provide resources on a wider scale to others on a similar path is what led him to accepting the responsibility of leading JFGA’s new interfaith initiative.
