Atlanta Lions of Judah on the Move to Mexico City, April 7-11, 2024

 Join Women’s Philanthropy and co-chairs Cathy Selig and Staci Brill for a four-night journey to explore the dynamic, diverse Jewish community of Mexico City, and the city’s historic roots and unique cultural traditions.

The Women’s Philanthropy Journey to Mexico City asks all participants to make an individual or household gift of $5,400 (Lion of Judah level) or more to the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta 2024 Community Campaign. Women who have committed to the Lion’s Leap step up giving program, are also invited to join us.  

Trip Highlights Include:

  • Enjoy a tranquil boat ride in Xochimilco, Mexico’s Venice, with Mariachi music in colorful vessels called trajineras.
  • Explore the amazing site of Teotihuacán Pyramids, whose name means “the place where gods were created.” 
  • Visit important Jewish institutions including Monte Sinai Synagogue, Justo Sierra, and Colegio Olami Ort. 
  • Tour Frida Kahlo’s Blue House, La Casa Azul, it is a treasure trove of the artist’s artifacts and belongings. 
  • Delve into Museo Memoria y Tolerancia Museum, the Museum of Memory and Tolerance focusing on human rights and the history of international genocides. 
  • Savor tequila tastings (of course) and more……  

Itinerary at a Glance (Subject to Change):

Day One:  Arrive in Mexico City and head to Xochimilco, “Mexico’s Venice” followed by an orientation with our extraordinary tour guide and festive welcome dinner 

Day Two: An introduction to Jewish Life in Mexico City with visits to Colegio Olami Ort, and Monte Sinai Synagogue. An afternoon visit to Zocalo, (Central Square) Metropolitan Cathedral and Templo Mayor.  Authentic Mexican dinner with tequila tasting 

Day Three: Visit the Teotihuacan Pyramids, A UNESCO World Heritage Site and vast archaeological complex, and an afternoon visit to Frida Kahlo’s Blue House 

Day Four: Enjoy a morning at the CDI- Centro Deportivo Israelita (Israeli Sports Center), learn together at Museo Memoria y Tolerancia, and explore the Chapultepec Castle in the Chapultepec Park.  

Day Five: Breakfast and return home with incredible memories

We will be adhering to Mexico’s Covid-19 guidelines and vaccination policy, which are subject to change. It is the responsibility of each participant to ensure they meet the necessary vaccination requirements.
